Lapiaz

Convoluted

And Lapiaz makes a re-appearance. I've been putting this off (both updating the Blip and welding this exhaust) for quite a while. Months, in fact. Backblips can wait, I have decided.

As part of the old mini upgrade, we are changing the carburettor to get more go-faster juice.

The snag: the new exhaust system fouls the new inlet manifold on our new go-faster juice provider. Those of you who work on minis will know just how much space is available for such endevours (not very much).

The solution: get some mandrel bend exhaust tubing and re-weld it like a jigsaw. A sharper bend to clear the inlet manifold, twisting out between the other exhaust branches, looping over one of them, then twisting around and back in line with the existing junction. Easy to say but it took about 5 hours of cutting, welding, checking, cutting he next bit, welding....

You get the idea.

My brain is convoluted just enough to actually enjoy that sort of thing. It was also gratifying to know that I haven't forgotten how to weild an acetylene torch.
