Autumn leaves
It seems appropriate to show a picture of autumn leaves when I'm dealing with the autumn of my mother's life. Today we moved to a short term nursing care home. This parkland is the garden surrounding the home and there is a lovely easy walk around it. To the right of the trees is a wide stream with lots of inquisitive or greedy mallards which are entertaining. There are also stables next door so it may be possible to see horses on occassion. There are also lots of cycle paths all around here and Mum used to cycle along them quite frequently as her parents are buried in a cemetary closeby. Mum won't be able to do that anymore unless it's a tandem or a two seater tricycle with a competent friend, or a static exercise bike. This does make her sad as she thought nothing of taking herself on 30 km cycle rides out to a restaurant for lunch or coffee and cake, then cycling all the way home again a couple of times a week. She used to do most of her shopping using her bicycle too. The home seems to provide lots of activities including computer tuition which will help her to stay in touch with the rest of the family and also when she gets stuck with her iPad. Mum seems to be quite happy with this new arrangement. She said it feels restful. Her room is nice and overlooks this garden as well as a very nice looking restaurant. It's not very far for her friends to come to visit, walking distance for some, a couple of stops with the tram for others. Tomorrow we are seeing the cardiologist.
