Inverurie: 'The Salmon above the Flood'

Late afternoon sunlight catches this piece of 'public art' by sculptor Alison Simpson in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.

A stainless steel plaque set into the pavement beside the sculpture reads:

"The Picts placed a stone carved with a salmon in the River Don at its safest crossing point, its meaning clear: When the salmon could be seen, the ford was passable; when the fish was not visible, the water was too deep.

"Alison Simpson, Sculptor, 2003"
