5 de Noviembre
It's our beloved province's Heroes Day, when we celebrate an almost bloodless revolution on November 5, 1898 when the formidable Spanish conquistadores surrendered, scared stiff as they saw a huge battalions of Filipino revolutionary soldiers coming from the North (Silay City) and from the South (Bago City) armed with hundreds of rifles and cannons. It turned out that most of these weapons were merely props, decoys, defronded coconut branches and rolled-up bamboo mats painted pitch black to look like the real thing which demoralized the Spaniards who surrendered peacefully, signing a Surrender Document witnessed by Generals Aniceto Lacson and Juan Araneta, among others, whose names are two of the major highways stringing Bacolod City from North to South.
