Hover Fly
A New Zealand native hover fly, Melangyna novaezealandiae. I blipped a shot of one of these flies last November, a side view of it stationary. They are called a hoverflies because they hover in front of flowers, apparently seeking nectar and pollen. That was what this one was doing when I snapped it.
One year ago: a male blackbird feeding two chicks.
