Hi-Speed

Beware, technical geekery ahead ...

Possibly because of my job I was chosen as one of the trial sites (at home) for TelstraClears new hi-speed internet service. They have just upped their capability to deliver 100mbps download speeds, I was on 15, so that's a pretty good improvement. If you are on ADSL you might be getting 5 or 6. If you are still on dialup, well, I feel very sorry for you.

I learned when they arrived that I am the very first trial site in Christchurch, woohoo! I'll be surfing faster than anybody else at home. I feel special ;-)

The install was quick, basically swap the modem and test. But then they tried to benchmark it, what a performance. They spent nearly 2 hours googling the best testing site as they didn't trust www.speedtest.net, or at least it wasn't delivering the speed they expected. Lots of factors could cause that ...

So the max speed we got while they were here was about 60mb/s, soon after they left I rebooted everything and got 95. Tonight the best I can do is 75.

I reckon that's still pretty good tho, I won't complain! Especially as the 3 month trial is free.
