Half-way Tree

This plaque is on a huge 300 year old pine tree. The tree is at the side of the road half-way between Merritt, the town where I grew up and the nearest town Kamloops. We always felt that this was the mother tree of the area.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago, when I stopped to photograph this majestic tree, that I noticed the plaque. We moved to Merritt in 1955 but I never met or heard of these people before. Nor do I know the story behind the plaque.

Today, I stopped and took a picture to help me find the story.
