Sanity at Work!
Dark when I left the house this morning and dark when I got home tonight. Very dark this morning as there was a power cut at the time! Luckily I have plenty of candles and tealights, and there are torches to hand for such eventualities.
The electricity supply to our island comes from the main island through a very temperamental cable. If there is an overland problem - gales, ice on the wires, birds trying to nest in the poles (they try, as there are so few trees, to make nests with bits of wire and so cause the power to short out!) then it is usually sorted fairly swiftly. If, as this time, it is an underground problem, it takes a bit longer. They plug in generators, but at peak times they can't cope.
It's weird - you know there's no power but you still try and switch on the light to look for matches in the drawer! Luckily we have a gas hob so I could put a pan on for water for coffee but usually I make my porridge in the microwave and had no time to make it properly on the stove so had to have cold cereal! A poor start to a November day!
Came home tonight to find everything which has a timer or clock display on it blinking away at me!
These words and this poster are on the office wall to keep us sane. See if they work for you! It's my day off tomorrow but I have to go in for a Manual Handling course - who is going to be on the receiving end is anyone's guess! Working for the NHS is an endless riot of fun!
