15,000 rejections
example: advert for employment website, "working.com"
source: the vancouver courier; wednesday, october 6, 2010, pg ew34
analysis:
the employment website, working.com, uses good ol' infographics in this advertisement to convey just how many jobs they have listed on their database. the bar graph clearly displays that they have 15,000 jobs, or over 15,000 jobs, as stated directly below the graph. and exactly how many jobs do you need? the graph indicates just one.
this bar graph quickly conveys working.com has 15,000 job listings on their website, so it is successful in that sense, but some people could potentially interpret this ad the wrong way, and think that working.com is suggesting that they are so hopeless that they may need to go through 15,000 listings to find just one job. working.com obviously did not intend to offend, but that is one possible misinterpretation.
perhaps this infographic would be more successful in they had graphed the number of listings other employment websites feature in comparison to their own.
either way, this advert shows that the odds are in your favor. as offensive or depressing the odds may be.
