example: advert for an annual benefit, "2010 annual benefit h'arts for the homeless gala"
source: the georgia straight; september 23-30, 2010, pg 106

analysis:
the hands that come together to form the representative shape for a house pop out during preattentive processing because of the colour contrasts. the texture and stark photocopy-esque colour of the hands really stand out against the smooth, solid reds and blacks, which helps the hand-implied house capture the viewer's attention. the negative shapes created as a result are used as designated text areas for providing background info regarding the gala. and thus, it effectively draws the eye to the main focus of the advertisement.

overall, the hands visually divide the space for quick perceptual organization and ultimately, boosts the speed of cognition.
