Getting too close

As you can see I managed to get really close to this little hedgehog. I spotted it in our front garden, close to the bird feeder. I rushed outside to take some pictures and only once I got there I realized I still had the 50mm lens on the camera. I didn't think I would be able to get a good shot; they usually don't let people get very close. This one did not seem to mind. At first I thought that was great and I called Inge and her friend who were playing in the street so they could see the hedgehog too.

When it didn't even seem to mind two young girls jumping around it, I thought there must be something wrong with the hedgehog. It was very easy to put the little one in a box; another sign it probably wasn't doing very well. I then put in on the scale and discovered it only weighed 267 grams: far too light to be able to survive the winter.

Me, Inge and her friend took the hedgehog to an animal shelter. They promised to keep us informed...
