The Gift

I met Harry here after climbing these steps to the top of this lighthouse on Sapelo Island, a smaller island north of Cumberland.

"What are you doing up here?" I asked.

"Mmmm-mm-mmmmmngh..." he replied.

"Sorry?" I asked.

He took a moment to put down his burden, and finally responded, impatiently: "It's a present for my girlfriend. She's been acting a bit cold lately. I think something's wrong."

"Oh," I muttered, as he hurried off.

Back on the ground, I heard another voice behind me.

"I've tried to tell him."

I turned to see a small frog shaking his head sadly.

"If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times," the frog continued. "She's just a statue. But does he listen? Of course not."
