Fifty

Yesterday marked 50 blips, no misses. Decided to celebrate this minor event by taking a look at something "50". I found a coin we yankees rarely see or use - the fifty cent piece. In this case it's a JFK, first issued in 1964, just three months after he was assassinated.

I'm not a coin collector, but I happen to have a few old coin sets lying around, including one from 1964. A quick check reveals that 1964 was the first year the JFK was minted, and the only year it contained 90% silver (10% copper). Thereafter the silver was dropped to 40%.

Notice just above the "we" there is a controversial marking on his collar that some believed was a hammer and sickle. However, it is the initials "GR" of the chief engraver, Gilroy Roberts.
