Under Pressure
Day 2 of Soccer Tournament:
*8:00 am - Liam's Game (1-1 tie)
*9:15 am - Loren's Game (Thunderbirds won 6-0)
*1:00 pm - Loren's Game (Thunderbirds won 8-1)
*1:00 pm - Liam's Game (0-0 tie, so then two 5 minute overtimes AND a shootout - Sharks won 2-0 in shootout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Today was intense! In the first game, we were robbed of 1 goal when they called our team off-sides, therefore not counting one of our goals. Yet all the players were all basically in the goal, making it a poor call. It did affect their standings/points, so they played for 3rd or 4th place in the last game. The 1:00 pm game was so exciting. It was a tie so they went into 2 five minute overtimes to try to break it. No goals were scored in overtime so then it went into a shootout. LIAM WAS PLACED INTO GOALIE POSITION IN THE SHOOTOUT. The coach felt he was the best person for the job, so it just about gave me a HEART ATTACK. I felt like my breath was held until it was all over! Liam blocked ALL 5 shots and our team scored 2 on the opposing goalie....SO SHARKS WON 3rd PLACE!!! YAY!!!!!!!
LOREN'S TEAM, THE FLYING THUNDERBIRDS, WON THE TOURNAMENT FOR THE U12 DIVISION!!!!! 1ST PLACE!!!!!!! Due to scheduling mishaps, our coach who coaches both the U9 and U12 teams was in a dilemma...they scheduled both games at 1:00 pm. So I went to the first half of Loren's game, and then switched off with Gary at half-time and went to Liam's game. There were no assistant coaches on the U9 team, so the coach had to miss the championship game of his (and Loren's) U12 team and passed the coaching onto the great Assistant Coaches. That was the only downer of the day (that the coach and several parents had to pick which sibling's games to watch in the championships)...but it was still a day that will go down in the memory books! MY BLIP PHOTO IS OF LIAM LEAPING INTO THE AIR AND BLOCKING ONE OF THE BALLS IN THE SHOOTOUT AT THE VERY END! I'm so proud of the teams and of my boys.
