I need to learn how to cast off and cast on so that I can construct hats such as this (constructed, along with a similar item in more exciting colours, by his paternal grandmother) for myself, though out of less insulating materials so that they can be worn for more than one month each year. Hopefully the fit of these is snug enough and the ear-flaps designed so that he won't notice something touching his cheeks whose ability to absorb dribble he will then be compelled to assess. A bigger challenge will be getting a pair of mittenish glubs which can be put on easily but which will also stay on, though without incorporating a small zip along the distal edge I don't know how this could be achieved. Getting his hands through sleeves is enough of a problem though massively easier than when he was much smaller when it felt like a stray splayed tinyfinger could easily be accidentally bent back beyond the maximal permitted angle if he chose to splay his fingers during the ensleeving process, which he generally did and still does, though at least the sleeves through which he must be put these days are just big enough to get a couple of adult fingers down to try and control the babyfingers.
