Friends
Someone said to me the other day that friends were the family you chose for yourself.
My immediate family (parents) have been the best "friends" I could have picked, despite being lumped with them from birth. You see programmes on TV that ridicule families who are torn apart by feuds, promiscuity and other, quite frankly, devastating truths. It'd be quite easy to watch these programmes and judge those who have had a stream of horrendous things happen to them, I have done it myself in the past. However, I think that the best families are the ones who can stick through it. Overcoming things that are perceived to ruin your idea of what the future may be will be the hardest thing anyone ever has to do.
Today was the funeral for my brother. My friends were there to support us, as were my parents' friends. Perhaps it is that you develop a higher sense of community when you go through these things, perhaps I'm just a shade pretentious (easy...).
So, here's to family, friends and all that soppy rubbish.
