East meets West

My hostess, the lovely Irina, and I half way through the Bolshoi's Swan Lake. This may not look like the Bolshoi theatre, and it is not. It is the Kremlin Palace, a 6000 monster of a hall with no atmosphere, and even the Bolshoi looked dwarfed on stage. Their theatre is being renovated. Ten out of ten for the precision of the dancing but oh the production itself sported very dull designs that were little more than smudges of beige and browns and coppers. Yes the dancing was probably superior to our companies (maybe?) but we certainly make a better evening of drama and pyschology and theatre out of Swan Lake.
