Children of Lafage

While waiting for the school bus to come back to the village this evening, I took refuge in Cecile's kitchen and started to go through her box of photos and postcards. Cecile heads north for the winter; to Toulouse, central heating and a corner shop within walking distance, so time is limited and I spend most early evening with her while she gives me a history lesson.
She is the girl in the back row on the right. Clemence is in the front row, the only girl with long hair and with the same face as her 13 year old great grandaughter, Anais.
The second girl to the left of Cecile, walked down to the village school every morning from our house. She probably slept in the same room as my children.
The village school closed in the 1970's. The children now get the little bus from Lafage, which takes them to neighbouring village schools. it's arrival interupts our history lesson. We'll resume tomorrow...
