Playing around with some macro stuff today and after seeing some fantastic close-up shots of the human eye on on this website this young chap wanted to have a go at some himself.
We used a nice low-tech solution to make sure the eye was in focus as much as possible by first taking a shot along the length of a ruler marked out in millimetres. This gave us an accurate reading of where the sharpest point of focus was and then we taped a thin piece of card to the underside of the camera and trimmed this to the same distance. All young G had to do after that was to stare straight down the lens, move his head forward until the end of the card touched his face then fire off the shutter to grab the shot. So that what he's doing here, snapping his eye photo.
All good fun, and made for an interesting shot from the other side of the lens too.
