Part 3

For all those interested in Cholera & the UN....

We've been hearing for the last few weeks that the cholera was introduced into the country from the toilets of the Napalese UN camp. The latrines are linked to the river where eventually people drink and wash in down the valley. This was north of Port au Prince in the Artibonite region. Its very rural.

There was a hope last month that the cholera would be confined to that area. Its out of the way of Port au Prince with no major roads leading into it. On the 1st & 2nd of November there was a religous holiday all over Hait. Long story short - people from the city travelled north back to their home villages deep in the cholera red zone. When they returned back to the city, they most likely brought the cholera with them.

There was rioting in the north of the island as a protest against the Napalese UN officers. But it was by a handfull of people. There was some trouble in Port au Prince - but alot of people are putting it down to the elections that are happening this week. Large gatherings, politicians, unhappy people, heavy security. Etc.

On a diffeent note - Here's a side of Haiti no one ever hears about. It's a beach down the road from a new school we're building in Jacmel. École La Dignité.
