BEURRE DIEL PEAR TREE

This old French pear tree is the oldest exotic tree in Christchurch N.Z. planted in1846 by the first settlers in Christchurch ,John and William Deans who arrived in 1843.
The pear is a cooking variety and it still fruits. The pears are used in desserts by the chefs at Riccarton House,the former Deans homestead.
