Bruntsfield Links
It's a marvelous morning in Edinburgh. This is a shot across Bruntsfield Links.
The old Burgh Muir was part of an ancient forest given to the city by King David 1 in the 12th century. 900 year later it is almost all built over - but this green place (along with the adjoining Meadows) makes a lovely piece of country in the middle of the South Edinburgh built environment.
This may be the earliest Golf Course in the world! We don't know when it started, but there is an edict from 1457 prohibiting the playing of the game here! The Golf Tavern alongside claims to have been founded in 1456.
The Church you can see is Barclay-Viewforth. The building was erected - like hundreds others in Scotland - in the mid-19th century following the Great Disruption.
