Guelder Rose berries
I was on my way to the inevitable supermarket and decided to break my journey to visit a small area of Woodland Trust. The land was only planted a few years ago and now the trees are beginning to take shape. I remembered this Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus) from last year. The berries always look so shiny and translucent - the birds love them and although sour they are also used in food in some northern countries. The shrub came to England about 400 years ago from Gelderland in the Netherlands.
