an old cynic's view

A strange sight indeed

Ships like this were a common sight when I was a lad.
At a high tide they passed silently by Dumbarton Castle esplanade every 15 minutes.
It was a wonderful sight and we all had those wee pocket books of ships and ticked them off as we saw them.
Oh the excitement when a new shipping line came up the river as we had seen all the Blue Funnel line ships. I am afraid my memory is not as good as it was but I am sure someone will know the other shipping lines
see here what Glasgow docks used to be like.
