Lancashire Levitation

J9 was in the gallery this morning so I had a stroll around town. Got chatting to these chaps, who are the Horwich Morris Men, celebrating Lancashire Day. This marks the occasion in the year 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representative to the king and became part of parliament.

Have to say I love the fact that up here in the Pennines they really do care about keeping traditions alive, from the thriving brass band to the wonderfully mad pace eggers.

Really nice bunch and great to see a mix of young uns in there too keeping it alive for years to come.

edit: I dont know why people have a downer on Morris dancing, I think its a wonderful tradition and amazingly intricate to watch. if most of us went abroad on holiday and saw a local folk dance there, dating back centuries, we would think it was fantastic to have witnessed it. People should cherish these individuals who keep traditions alive and support them whenever they can
