The $500 Egg
I had a huge surprise when I checked the hen house on Thanksgiving Day - our first egg from one of the girls! I check daily but honestly did not expect eggs now until spring. The weather has turned cold and the days short, circumstances that can cause young hens to wait until warmer weather to begin their chickenly duties, according to my farmer friend. And then two days later, ANOTHER! It's not a fluke, one of those girls is serious. We're pretty sure we know which one is so generously providing food too, because one of them is talking funny. She's using a different voice and sound and is suddenly very friendly. I think she's telling me, "See? Aren't you proud of me?" Either that or she's saying, "What did you do with my egg, Sucker?"
Thanksgiving Day was good except for the fact that I am under the weather again...same as in January - nothing contagious but surely nothing fun either. My precious family did most of the work that day and I'm feeling a bit more energetic today (drank some coffee and I fear it gave me a false boost of energy, but then a false boost is better than no boost, right? I've been off the stuff for a few days now). I didn't even take one picture on Thanksgiving Day though :(. I do have some to backblip from the past week or so...soon.
My Taxman is the one who claimed the first egg was the $500 egg. It made me laugh because there's probably more than an ounce of truth in it. Worth every penny though, in my opinion. I think we're on a roll.
