Gibraltar coinage
Gibraltar's currency is pretty much the same as ours, although they are known as Gibraltar pounds which is on a par with our sterling. The notes are totally different to ours, and the Queen must love them as she looks MUCH younger on them ;-)
The coins are almost exactly the same, although the pictures on them are relevant to Gibraltar, and feature things such as The Great Siege, An ape, The keys to Gibraltar, dolphins, the Gibraltar woman skull etc...
(Not aware of the Gibraltar woman skull? Well, eight years before the pre-historic skull of a man was found in the Neander Valley, a woman's skull was found in Gibraltar. No one knew what it was so just stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it until the other one was found! What's now referred to as 'Neanderthal man' should actually be 'Gibraltar woman'...)
As you can just make out, on the reverse of the coin you'll see 'Gibraltar' on it.
Both Gibraltar coinage and notes and English sterling coinage and notes are widely used in Gibraltar, but try to use a Gibraltar note over in England and you'll be very lucky for it to be accepted. Stupid really. Money's money!
