Life Saving Vessel
My Thanksgiving visit with my sister's family included today's visit to the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville, on the Great South Bay. Among the areas of History it preserves are the harvesting of oysters (this location being a major center of the industry from the late 19th century) and the rescuing of people from offshore wrecks. This vessel was more a floating capsule than a boat, used to pull several people to shore at a time. The museum is recommended --for a warmer day than this!
