The (not so) quiet life

500 Miles

With provisions running low and cabin fever starting to set in a trip to the shops was necessary. The road up to ours is still dreadful so since the skies were blue and Satans Minions seemed on good form we (or rather I) decided it might be a nice idea to walk. The husband wasn't quite so convinced and within 100 yards of leaving the house I had a sneaking suspicion he may have been right. However to admit that would also meaning admitting that I was wrong so I got my head down and got on with pushing the buggy through close to a foot of compacted snow and ice.

Getting to the shop wasn't too problematic- it's virtually all down hill and when Minion number one got tires she could go in the bottom of the double buggy. However, those of you with a bit of savvy will have worked out that if the two miles there is all down hill then the two miles back will all be uphill. And pushing a double buggy with around 4 and a half stones worth of children in it uphill through deep snow is not really an option. The result was massive amounts of moaning from Minion 1 as she staggered/was dragged homewards. From the tantrum she was having you'd have thought we'd sent her on a solo expedition to the South Pole. Though when the blue skies turned to blizzards with a mile and a half still to go I could kind of see the point she was trying to make. This is Minion 1 attempting to explain to the husband exactly why he should be carrying her rather than making her walk.
