Let them eat cake

Two inspiring factors here: the cookbook blip POD2008 took a couple of days back; and the recent marked change in bird activity in our garden.

We have great tits, blue tits, wrens and blackbirds who live in the trees in our back garden (as well as magpies and a jay, but they're big and scary enough to look after themselves).

But lately we've also had visits from a dunnock, a couple of long-tailed tits and some chaffinches. The new faces are a sign that food's running scarce as the temperatures drop. Now the little fellas need a hand.

Made these for the birds in our garden this afternoon. Mixed seed and suet, messy business. Still can't shift the smell of the beef fat off my fingers.
