Malky

Tonight was the Malcolm Middleton gig. It would have been fantastic but for the fact I was feeling rubbish. I loaded up with paracetamol and felt fine beforehand but by halfway through I started to feel rotten.

It's a shame as he played a fantastic set and his band were great particularly his backing singer, a girl called Jenny Reeve (if I heard correctly). Not only did she have a great voice but she also played guitar, violin, tambourine and keyboard. He played most of the last album and quite a few off Into the woods. I wish he'd played the devil and the angel though. The gaps between the songs were filled with his dry humour which resulted in a good banter with the crowd despite him claiming his "patter was shyte". At one point he asked if anyone had travelled from his hometown of Falkirk, when several people cheered he asked "Getting the last train home aye?" when this recieved more shouts of agreement he replied "Dinnae hassle us awright".

A great gig despite my generally feeling crap. It's great to have seen two brilliant bands in the dame week and for them both to be Scottish. I think it's indicative of the re-emergence of good scottish rock acts over the last few years after the dark days of the eighties and early nineties.

Oh, and happy birthday Bella.

Off to my bed now as I still feel rubbish and I hae work in the morning.
