Snow Day

More snow, and still falling. College closed, along with all the state schools and most of the private ones across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Some teachers were told to go in, even although kids were told not to, struggled through the conditions, only to be told to go home again. Can imagine how that went down. Someone at it, if you ask me, as teachers get paid for a Snow Day, while either council workers do not. So when everyone else is told not to come in, some bright spark (presumably an accountant) says the teachers are getting paid, we should get them in. Would have said everyone should get paid, rather than just the teachers, as it's hardly a common occurrence, but then that's the sort of erosion of workers' rights that has been going on for a while. Teachers still have reasonably strong unions and therefore that's presumably why their Snow Days are still paid, unlike other workers who have lost or never had that right.
