...what happens when you put your camera on the tripod, set it to 30 second exposure with no flash (wearing only jeans and a t-shirt, of course) go out in 20 degree weather at 11 PM and take a shot. This is with the contrast boosted 79%. I don't know what the colored splotch is, but I do know that its not the northern lights.

Does it look kind of like a rock album cover to you?
