way out
Well. Not sure that will always be possible. Maybe it's just the manufacturers doing a bit of arse-covering as a result of excessive litigation on the part of someone who broke it by sitting down too suddenly whilst wearing uncomfortably tight pants.

Managed to roll most of the way in this morning with a couple of wee walking-breaks where I would otherwise have been inconvenienced by a combination of a taxi or bus up the back wheel in conjunction with a slightly erratic course over some of the more concealed lumpy-ice-under-slush bits of the ungritted and unscraped roads, presumably left that way in under the presumption that sufficient bus and taxi traffic would clear its own path. With only a thin channel to work with (and no way of even crossing to the adjacent other wheel-rut without severely risking sliding sideways to the ground) it was easier to pull over and walk where required, though the overall journey time was still half that of walking-only. About seven people didn't make it in out of our relatively small team and in the afternoon the only-once-before-in-ten-years-there step of people being sent home was instigated. The last time this happened I was deemed to be the most suitable person to stay and man the phones merely because I lived the shortest distance from the office, whereas this time I stayed for a full day as I was supposed to return to the flat to complete the remainder of the wee fixes the tenants requested last week. After a trundle past the (firmly shut) bike shop to get a replacement light for the one which fell off somewhere between Regent and Lothian Roads on the way in I discovered, upon arriving at the flat, that my spare light had also fallen off somewhere between Lothian Road and Whitehouse Loan, though the lumpy icy bit on the bus lane at the end of Earl Grey St was the most likely place for it to have fallen. I picked the quietest (but also the windiest and iciest) way back though with all the snow around it was quite bright even with minimal street-lighting. With only my helmet-light remaining (and no bracket to fit it securely to the frame) I'll probably walk it tomorrow to see if the council gets its arse in gear (when it manages to find it) regarding the scraping and gritting of major bus routes, to hopefully prevent the amusing sight of stranded buses spinning their wheels in an attempt to not slide backwards down relatively shallow slopes with which numerous people were treated this morning, though to be fair there were many more people just getting on with walking in than there were waiting forlornly at bus stops.
