Bufflehead

This is one of the Bay Area's winter visitors, and the smallest diving duck in North America. According to the US National Zoo, its name is a corruption of buffalo head, due to its large head. Other nicknames are Bumblebee Dipper, Robin Dipper, Hell-diver, Spirit Duck, and Butterball.
