Poor, lonely, dejected...
I decided that it was high time to take a short break from the monotony of home-working, and venture outside to the shop. I needed cake to fit with my coffee, and I had an experiment to conduct!
I passed a neighbor returning in his 4x4 (not the one pictured yesterday), or nearly returning. Even he didn't make it up his drive. He'd been to work having been asked by the NHS to report to the nearest hospital.
Anyway, the experiment! Well, after estimating quite how much snow has fallen in East Calder for people on the phone several times today, I thought that I should go and take a scientific measurement. So I endeavoured to the middle of the flat(ish) playing field behind our house. There are few obstructions to allow drifting, and few people had ventured across (or at least I guess not). There I undertook to wriggle my right foot until it hit solidy ground. The surface snow level comfortably passed my knee, and reached a considerable distance towards my hip. So there- consider the snow-fall measured!
Job done I looked up, and was confronted with the scene I have shared above. It struck me as poigniant in the run-up to Christmas. Why? Well, I am sure that there will be many toys, once loved, that fall by the wayside when the new deliveries arrive from Santa. Rather like how these swings are deserted in favour of the toboggan run down the snow. Nothing wrong with that. But of course the snow will only last a short while (here to hoping!), and all too soon the children will run back to the swings, unawares of the hurt they have caused to the pride of these behemoths of outdoor entertainment. But the swings will welcom them back...
That just left the cake. I picked up a Fords Iced Ginger. Well, in fact, I picked up two. They always come in packets of two. I think that's a really nice thought. It's good of Fords always to encourage you to buy to share. That is why they put two in the packet, right?
Well, sitting now and eat it with my cup of fresh ground coffee, I am reminded of one more thing. Did you see the feature on Jimmy's Food Factory last night about the chewing gum? Well, this icing on the ginger reminds me distincly of the heated lump of random plastics the he threw into the saucepan. But thankfulls it's just icing sugar and water (I think). The show last night put me right off chewing gum!
Anyway, it just got dark outside, and I need to do another hour's work to finish off for the day. I don't think I'll make a habit of this working-from-home thing. It's dead boring. I might just drive myself mad...
