Unchain my tart (Winter cure #1)
"A gourmet who thinks of calories is like a tart who looks at her watch."
~ James Beard
Piles of snow in the night; more coming.
I was going to make shortbread biscuits, but changed my mind and patted the shortbread into a tart pan instead. Next, I decided to wing it and bake a lemon tart using the shortbread crust as a base. But my lemons were too wrinkly to use. Hmm. A quick rootle around the fridge revealed a jar of quince and apple jelly that everyone's been ignoring for a month.
Et voila! Quince and apple jelly tart. Buttery shortbread crust makes the perfect base for a zingy quince and apple jelly filling. And the caramelised edges are what my American friends describe as "to die for."
Surrender. You know you want to.
All in all, an excellent morning of freestyling in the kitchen. God I love it when the Fickle Fairy comes to call.
. . . . . . . . . .
And what else does one do to keep warm on a snowy day? One turns up the volume (way up) and dances to the divine Mister Saadiq of course.
