Not snow, but not grim
I mentioned yesterday that I might have to walk home and I did. It was certainly the best choice as Kay and I passed endless vehicles stuck in traffic, or stuck up hills.
I think covering 6 miles, in snow, in wellies in 2 hours was a bit too fast though as, lovely as the walk was, I twanged my knee and so that combined with snow means I'm working from home today.
I did have to hobble through the snow to the Co-op though in search of bread and milk which was an experience:
- one shopper claiming that local people who are regulars should get priority over "these new people" (in a League of Gentlemen "local shop for local people" sort of way and looking straight at me! Cheek, I've been going in several times a week for 11yrs!)
- the inevitable "it's just like the War" comment
- I had to carry my shopping piled up in my arms as they were too short staffed to replace the baskets
- there were signs telling people they'd run out of some items
And then as I was paying, a shout went up from a member of staff: "It's the Warbuton's man! He's just pulling up outside! Quick! Get out there and make sure no one grabs any bread before we've counted it!"
I left at that point, but perhaps I should have stayed to witness the staff shielding the Warbuton's man from the baying mob...
So, I made my own bread instead. It's a bit heavy, but very tasty :-) And as I promised a fellow blipper yesterday that I would do a non-grim blip today, here it is.
