Ferry to Hoy
An early start to get to Stromness for the 7.45 ferry, for another day volunteering with the RSPB replacing a forestry plantation with native species of trees. We don't get the low temperatures of the mainland, but it was -9 passing Maes Howe and -6 when we arrived at Moaness pier on Hoy. Got yesterday's bonfire going again quickly, then started another and was then sent to start a third. Which refused to co-operate. By 2.30pm I was totally wiped out. Even walking on the very rough forestry ground in deep snow is very tiring, never mind hauling around big heavy conifer boughs. A big team today, though, five RSPB people and three volunteers, so I didn't feel that I was slacking off (since I was there yesterday too).
A couple more here.
