Man in the tropics rule #1 'Be prepared'
As we prepare to return to the scene of last years debacle I thought that this year I would mark the passing days with a photo-journal so our progress can be charted. It will be a bit like an advent calendar, just not as spiritual, a new picture each day to represent something of the unfolding events. After last years fantastic yet testing experience (I still have flashbacks about the mangrove swamps inhabited by billions of crabs), some record is due.
So, this time, with the benefit of experience, I am going to document the rules I will seek to survive (and even enjoy) the trip. As an ex cub-scout I am taking Baden-Powell's advice and so the first rule is obvious. Rule #1 is 'Be prepared' - and this is some of the stuff I am taking. Lots of industrial strength insect spray - to attack the 'roaches before they attack me; my knife - you just don't know what swims in those deep waters; meds for number 2 problems; head torch for those very dark nights; rope - just in case!; and of course the mosquito net. Now I have purchased our own net this year - the problem may be putting it up (photos will inevitably follow).
So, we are locked and loaded (ie packed) and ready to go ............ Brazil here we come, man in the tropics is coming, ready or not!
