he's got me on stride

example: advert for reebok, 'i am what i am' campaign; "he's got me on stride"
source: http://www.ibelieveinadv.com/2006/10/reebok-runners-head-games/

analysis:
"he's got me on stride.
he's got me on speed.
his jaws could crush a hatchback.
so he's got that too.
but i am tenacious.
and i am pretty sure
i got him on distance."

the source website succinctly describes the concept of this specific advertising campaign with a word phrase: head-games.

with nothing but a black strip of emptiness that seems to go on forever, a runner has nothing to distract himself from the physical pain except himself. he can either psyche himself out, or he can keep pushing himself - it's all in the runner's mindset.

in this particular example, the advert plays on the runner's competitiveness and how it can drive a runner to go the distance.
