Bark Scorpion
This little fellow showed up on our hallway floor this morning. It is a Bark Scorpion, about one inch long. He must have slipped in under the front door.
We get a nice view of his stinger. Normally their tail is curled up so he can sting his prey while he holds them in his claws. This little fellow had the misfortune of crossing the chemical barrier around our house. The non-poisonous (to humans) chemical is based on an extract of chrysanthemums. He was anesthetized and barely moving while posing for about 20 minutes while I fooled around with cameras and lenses.
It is painful, but non-lethal when these guys sting humans, unless the person is an infant or elderly and weak. I didn't take chances and handled him with my big tweezers.
We only see a scorpion in our house a one or two times a year and they are always nearly dead like this one. I save them in an old pickle jar as my specimens.
