A kathy picture
My great aunt Kathy did oil paintings. Her subjects were vases of flowers and farm tracks leading through fields and disappearing over hills.
Whenever we stayed the night at Little Dean, we would get into bed with Mama before she got up in the morning, and we'd all go for a walk. Kathy's paintings were arranged, one above the other, on the wall opposite her bed. We would start in the lower picture and walk until the track disapeared. That then led us into the one above, and so on until we ran out of track in the top painting. Sometimes, Mama would get fed up with that walk, and rearrange the paintings, so the order was different and the landscape altered.
I can't remember ever going on a real walk with Mama, but loved our early morning ones through oil and canvas.
The cousins were back together today, walking the farm track to the pink house.
Shortly after this, heading back into the town, a huge sanglier ran towards amidst gunshots. It fell and shuddered and went still, before the white van moved in and took it away.
I don't remember death featuring in Kathy's paintings.
