Still too cold to be outside for long - but the smaller birds seem to be coping well in the city as there are people who feed them. There are notices around the docks saying don't feed the seagulls or pigeons (£2,500 fine) let nature look after itself but there hasn't been a prosecution and people continue to toss down left-over take-aways or even full loaves of bread. I get very angry as the gulls leave such a mess on the boats if fed nearby and twice now a herring gull has attacked me - once when one had a nest above a garage near my car (the nest had to be destroyed as the old man who had his car inside was regularly attacked) and once when I went too near a young gull that was by my gangplank and a parent swooped down and knocked me over as it went through my hair. Air rats!
