Slum
This is Dharavi slum - one of the largest in the world. It's precariously situated between two rivers which don't manage to drain the sewage well enough to stop the unbelievable smell, and which flood at various points throughout the year. There's 1 toilet for every 1440 residents - and there are over 1 million residents, contributing around $650million to the Indian economy each year.
There seem to have been plans a plenty from foreign multinationals to redevelop the area, but nothing major has happened yet.
Although residents have set up businesses - leather, dress-making and pottery the area is just a maze of these tin roofed shacks with basic basic living standards. In the background you can see the high-rise international businesses of Mumbai...
