Wee Birdie

Today we had a sticky hike up to the top of a Volcanic crater on the south side of the island. Amazng views of a big lagoon and out across the island from the top. Visited the remains of the Birdmen settlement - they lived in wierd round stone houses built into the hillside. To become king the men had to negotiate the treacherous cliffs down to the sea and paddle out to one of the nearby islands and get a birds egg and then they were shaved, painted red and got to be Big birdman king for the year.
