"The Goosander"
Took this shot on the river in the early afternoon . The Goosander is mistaken for a duck when viewed from a distance but is quite a different bird. Notice the beak, it`s narrow and serrated for gripping fish which it catches by diveing..Note the shape of the lower tail, this acts like a rudder. This is a male bird..... We have had a temperature change of 15deg. much of the undisturbed snow has melted, but, where it has been compacted it is now like glass, I tried to cut accross the Park to get to the river and it was a nightmare, will need to invest in some spikes, maybe the golf shoes would work????..
