weakness is not the opposite of strength
One of the important things about living with flow - the sweet spot where energy and passion meet - is to know well those things that prevent it. Just as flow looks different for each of us so do the things that hinder it. (Some people's Strengths are other people's weaknesses - when you figure out what everybody is Strong at, life gets really interesting.)
On Thursday (9th), I introduced Alistair exploring his Strengths; today I introduce Jojo, who, in our conversation today, was identifying her Weaknesses.
A Weakness is not something we are necessarily bad at, but that which de-energises and dispassions us. (Have you ever had someone tell you you should do something because you're good at it, but you know that would be like living in a nightmare?)
By this definition, then, a Weakness is not the opposite of a Strength, because you improve your performanace at this or that, but it's more than likely going to increase your sense of depletion and dispassion.
It's important for us to know our Weaknesses because we need to be able to walk away from them, and when we can't, to creatively manage them through our Strengths.
