Colourful Gamelan

... at the Royal Festival Hall.

I took this as an experiment in colour, camera hand-held and using ambient lighting only. (FYI: f/2.8, 0.7s, ISO200.)

The Gamelan is in the foyer of the RFH, and being put to good use by dedicated teams of players. The music is mesmerising to listen to, and the playing is entrancing to watch.

Here is a more conventional photograph of the instruments.

And here is a full-size version of the Blip.

We were really on our way to the Queen Elizabeth Hall. We had been invited by a good friend as birthday treats to a ("the") perfomance of the Christmas Oratorio. The six parts display countless examples of Bach's variety and inventiveness ? and just sheer mastery.

The music is wonderful, and to us signalled the real beginning of Christmas.
