The fool on the hill

Birdbrain

My parents gave me this book for Christmas in the late 60s. I'm not sure if the present sparked my interest in birds or that they gave it because I was already interested. When I look at it now I can still get a spark of that feeling I had when I was 8 or 9. Some of the illustrations seemed to me to be straight out of something like Noggin the Nog. Not in style but in other worldliness - the birds of prey in particular. Reading it now it's interesting to see how the relative scarcity of certain birds has changed. Kites were few and far between; sparrows and starlings ubiquitous.
Yes, I was stuck for a blip today.
